A server with 8 GB RAM and MS SQL only server with one instance, /PAE and AWE
set.
1) Shoud Max Server Memory be set to the full 8 GB or a less amount like 6
GB to account for the OS?
2) Is it necessary to set /3GB switch or does /PAE make it irrelevant?

would recommend it in most cases with only 8GB of ram. Absolutely set the
max memory setting to less than 8GB. Try 7.0 and see how that works. Once
you turn on AWE the memory is fixed and you need to leave room for the OS
and any other applications or processes.

Max character in field
In a SQL Server Db, what is the maximum amount of data a field can hold?
I am using right now nvarchar with a length of 4000.
Is there another setting to allow even more in a field?

I want to show the sales amount for this week and previous week in a Matrix.
I use one datasource to retrive this week's data, and the other datasource
to retrive previous week's data. How cound I show these two data in a

There are a couple of limited options here. The most flexible is to
use multiple datasources at the stored procedure/query level (that is
sourcing the matrix control). If you need to access different
databases or SQL Server Instances, this should be fairly straight
forward. For SQL Server Instances, you will want to create a linked
server. The other option, though limited, is to reference a second
report dataset via an aggregate (which does not seem to fit your needs
in this case). For this option, you would need to access a second
dataset via an aggregate expression. Something like this would work
for the second one (if it were an option):
=Sum(Fields!SomeFieldName.Value, "dsSecondDataset")

Matrix Sub-Totals
Hi,
I have one column group and 2 columns (one Amount & other Text) under
it in a matrix. I added subtotal to that column group and now Amount
total appears fine but first TEXT value appears in total coloumn. I
would like to hide the TEXT value appearing in Subtotal column.
I sure there are lot of threads addressing this sub-total issue but i
was unable to find answer for my query.
Any help would be appreciated.

Actually i am struggling to find a way to find where i can write the
Expression for SubTotal?

issue. I use something like the following in the expression :

Matching Debits and Credits query
I have a SQL statement that matches credit amounts to debit amounts which works fine except in cases when there is more than one debit amount for the same value, the code then applies the 1 credit to all the debits of the same amount.
eg. if I have the following
Amount Inv. No.
$200.00 345
$300.00 567
$200.00 129
In the above example using the code below, if I have a credit of $200.00 it will be applied to both inv nos. 345 and 129. I would just like it applied to either 345 OR 129.
SELECT Pos.osamt, Pos.ClientNo, Pos.FirstName, Pos.LastName, Pos.Address1, Pos.Address2, Pos.City, Pos.Country, Pos.TransDate, Pos.InvoiceNo, Pos.PolicyNo, Pos.TransAmt, Pos.TaxAmt, Pos.ReceiptAmt, Pos.Currency
FROM Pos LEFT JOIN Neg ON (Pos.osamt = abs(Neg.osamt)) AND (Pos.ClientNo = Neg.ClientNo)
WHERE (((Neg.osamt) Is Null));

Well, it is YOU who has to know whether it will be 345 or 129. What happens when there's another Inv. no with the same credit ($200)? And another?
There, of course, is a way - you could, for example, choose MIN(inv_no) or MAX(inv_no) or ...
Data model is awful; you'd better change it (if you can), because this promises you only sweat, blood and tears.|||...just out of curiosity how do you propose to match a payment against an invoice where the payer is disputing part of the invoice (ie they are paying some, but not all of the invoice), or where the payer makes a single payment covering many invoices?
